Word Processing

Sounds like a dream come true (for many dyslexic people it is). Dragon Naturally Speaking allows the user to speak into a microphone and the software puts it onto the screen. This software works very well, however it is important to know it may not be for everybody.

Text to speech
Texthelp (Read & Write Gold) and Kurzweil 3000 can convert text from Microsoft Word, Internet, e-mail etc to the spoken word. Also both programmes can be very useful for scanning books and having them read aloud back to the user.

Word Prediction
Texthelp (Read & Write Gold) and Kurzweil 3000 can also predict the sentences. This is done when the first couple of words are entered into a document the software predicts what the user is thinking and brings up a list of suggestions.

Mind Mapping
Software such as Inspiration enables the users to build a mind map on the computer, complete with colour pictures and text.

Kurzweil 3000 and Texthelp (Read & Write Gold) have advanced features that many students find very useful for study skills.
